| Okay, I just had to tell someone (and the more someones, the better)! I got a new parrot, last night . . . a beautiful, seven year old Cherry Head Conure. His name is Kiwi . . .and he's a fabulous bird!!! I met him several months ago, when his owner had just gotten him, and I fell in love. They recently decided to sell him . . . which I couldn't afford. No calls, so they asked if I wanted him . . . and OF COURSE I DID!!!!
I'll post pics, soon!

Wow! Carolyn, you are lucky to get Kiwi. I have 3 parrots myself, African Grey(8years old), Male Eclectus(4 years old) and rainbow lori(10 years old). They all talk well but the African Grey has most vocabulary. Looking forward to seeing a photo of Kiwi. Jan |

| Thanks, Jan! Right now, I have him quarantined, just in case. Wouldn't want the other 10 catching anything! Carolyn |

I used to have a sun conure...gorgeous colors, but boy can they make some NOISE,lol... the whole neighborhood knew I had them. Birds are wonderful! I also think Kiwi is such a cute name!! Ahhhh- congrats! I just adopted a dog yesterday. Lost my 15 year old Husky mix in October and have been a little stressed about whether to get another dog for me and my 12 year old Beagle. Met several dogs and Murph had no reaction. Met this little girl at a local humane society yesterday and they really liked each other! Sadly she lost her home due to finances. Her tenative name is Lola.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of your birds! Kelly |

| Beautiful parrot Carolyn, just wanna mention that i had bad experience with birds when my alexandrine parakeet completely demolished my hoya bella, ate a cactus, also caused damages to my vitellina, verticilata, NOID, spartoides. it managed to get where i kept my plants and just went crazy when no one was looking. kelly, nice dogs! i am planning to get a dog, i narrow it down to beagle or lab. battu |

| Wow, Carolyn. Kiwi is very striking, and what an appropriate name! Kelly, your new doggy is so cute! And Murph looks like he's happy with his new bud. It's so hard losing a pet, and no matter how many you lose, it never gets easier. I've spent my entire life with pets and when I lost our Shepherd, Remo, 3 years ago, it was at a time that he was our ONLY pet. (We had had cats, too, over the years, and I'd lost my oldest one a couple years before and was waiting for "the right moment" to get some kitties...) Well, I couldn't bear the house so quiet and we had to go find a puppy to bring in, which is how we ended up with Lucy, who's now three. Then, a year ago, I got two kitties, and the house just feels like a real home again. I can't imagine life without our fur-babies (and feather-babies, too!) My 3 girls napping...

| Kelly, Lola looks so adorable! I'm sorry to hear about your Husky. They are one of my favorite breeds (the other being a Malamute). Murphy seems to appreciate to have another friend in the home. I've never owned a Husky or Malamute, I like 'em because they look like wolves. Carolyn, Kiwi is very colorful! Plus, the name matches him very well. Denise, your picture proves that dogs and cats can live together peacefully. Thank you all for sharing! Brad AKA Moonwolf |

| Lola has been so good for Murphy. I can't believe it's only been 4 days and they are truly best friends. She is so exceeding my expectations! At some point I hope to get a DNA test on her to find out what mix she is- she's so cute and really well behaved! Murphy is a beagle, papillon, pekingese, miniature pinscher mix according to his DNA test. Denise, I'm so glad you posted pics of your crew! I remember seeing pics of the girls when they were babies! What a dear picture! I can't imagine how quiet your life must have been when in the petless period! You're abolutely right- I, too, have had pets all of my life and losing them is never easy. They are all so unique! Kelly |

| Kelly - Wow, I had no idea they could get that specific with DNA tests! Isn't technology wonderful?? Is it terribly expensive to have a DNA test on a dog? Denise in Omaha |
RE: Something new . . . but it's not a Hoya!

Denise, The DNA tests we used were about $60. There are more expensive ones with more extensive list of breeds. My mom apparently was bored one day and ordered them for all of the mutts in the family! It really was incredibly interesting though. For 15 years I was convinced Mikey was a border collie/husky mix, but his test came Shar Pei, Afghan, Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin's must "get around" in my area), husky and Saint Bernard. Looking forward to finding out Lola's heritage! Some are saying spaniel, some are saying setter. Do know she has HUGE feet for an adult dog! Kelly |

| I did more research . . . Kiwi is NOT a Red Masked Conure . . . he is, in fact, a Mitred Conure or a hybrid (don't like hybridization of birds). And he has turned out to be such a sweetheart! He talks, dances, sings(loudly) and gives kisses. I think I'm completely in love with this bird. :) Carolyn

I lost my cherry head when he flew out the door a couple of years ago. I was going to clip his wings. There are a lot of wild parrots on the island and I think he joined the colony down the street. We adopted my cousins African Gray this year, he's over 20 and has really blossomed at our house, she ignored him. We're working on the biting!! Tally HO! |

| OUCH! I would think a parrot bite would hurt a bit! That's some beak on em after all. ,,,Debbie |

Carolyn, your Kiwi is beautiful. My grandmother loved birds, when I was a little girl there was always something flying around the house. Kelly, your Lola is so cute, she looks really happy that you took her home. Sorry about the loss of your Husky. I have a 15 year old Lab named, Cody who isn't doing too well and I fear that she won't be around too long. I had three beautiful yellow Labs and she's the last one left... Denise, love the picture of your furry kids....they look so relaxed..... alba in Hawthorne,Ca |

Yeah, he bit her finger down to the bone, it got infected and she had to have surgery. Needless to say he NEEDED to come live with me. He's only nipped me once. He's talking and whistling a lot and I leave his cage open so he can climb around, had to move him as he climbed down, went into the hallway and started tearing up the sheetrock!!! The cat is terrified of him. They are so entertaining. My nephew will take him if he outlives me. Merlin likes guys. Tally HO! |
