I think that the most common reason for vine die back that I have seen is too dry a potting mix while the plant is trying to put out new growth. I suppose that any change in light, moisture, humidity or maybe other factors could cause the new growth to die back. I have seen this so many times now that I don't worry about it. The good thing about Hoyas is that they will always come back with strong new growth once conditions are better.

I totally agree with Mike! So many different reasons this can happen, and its happened to me quite often as well. I think we've all experience this with newly purchased hoyas or big difference in humidity(bringing it inside from outside), low moisture, too much. Well, you get the idea...:o)
