Most Hoyas are capable of rooting all along their stems so your cutting should be fine. Are both ends of the cutting mature or is one young growth? If the growth is still young and green then it may not root as well as more matured tissue.

It is good to know. I potted up a cutting, that was sitting in water for a week.I was wondering if I should put it in a plastic bag for a bit to keep the humidity up?

It's not a bad idea in the winter. I mean, it's easy to do and it helps the cutting, so why not? Just keep it out of direct sunlight if you put a bag over it, or you'll cook it.

I decided to use a pop bottle with the bottom cut off. Seems okay so far. My house is drafty and cold, so it need all the help it can get.
