Seems normal for a carnosa, to me. My 'Krimson Queen' bloomed last year almost white flowers, and this year they were more pink. They have always smelled like cocoa powder to me, though.

Mine did the exact same thing, the reverted growth makes it look like a Pubicaylx PS bloom and it really smells heavily of chocolate, more so than a Hindu Rope. The ver. vines still put out the lightly scented run of the mill carnosa blooms. It does make it an interesting plant, sort of a 'two in one'.

Poseidon

The same carnosa plant can flower white or pink depending on conditions. They also do smell differently, I heard. Even the same umbel, depending on the age of its flowers, will smell very differently. On a friend's H. compacta (not carnosa, but a relative), an umbel of new flowers smelled very nicely, but an umbel with fading flowers smelled a bit like rot or something else unpleasant.
