I am sorry to hear about your compacta. Mine did this, as well. Sometimes they recover, other times, they just shrivel and die. I have no clue what causes it. As long as the top inch or two of soil is slightly damp, I would not water it. Make sure you don't have mealies (the root or the leaf type), as they suck the life out of the plant, literally, which can cause the plant to shrivel. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.

I am going to assume that your plant has been going downhill for several weeks. In my experience, if a Hoya is going to bounce back, it does so within a couple weeks.

If it were mine, I would reroot it, or at a minimum start a few cuttings. Rerooting Hoyas is part and parcel of growing them. We water them the best we can and sometimes, particularly in fall and winter, something goes wrong. Rerooting them is a quicker and surer road to health than waiting for nature to take it's course.

Of course, it's ideal to do stuff in spring, but if a plant is sick, the situation forces your hand.
