Elk in New York! Stop it!

| Now is the time to write your NY state legislators to ask them to vote not to allow elk back in the state. These horse-size animals would only benefit the hunters and could be more of a nuisance than the deer. This is really happening! |

| What would keep the populations in check? They do that, and they will definitely have to release some large predators, which as we know are bad news for little children. |

| It reminds me of the people in my neck of the woods who put food out for the deer and are opposed to all hunting. |

| Feeding deer is illegal in NY. But one thing for sure, the deer haven't left much for elk to feed on. |

| Just wondering what is wrong with elk? Are they much bigger than moose? We have a bunch of moose sitings in our area. |

| Nothing is wrong with elk per se... they're just another large ruminant in a state with no predators and too many large ruminants as is. Deer are already decimating our forests, eating all the saplings, changing the ecology, eliminating food sources for other wildlife, and generally wreaking environmental havoc--to say nothing of eating our gardens. So I guess adding elk wouldn't be a very wise choice. |
