Good morning garden club

So, where is everyone? I've been out of town off and on the past two weeks, came home to winter aconite blooming the last time, all covered by 20" of snow when I left. And it's still here. I feel like I'm coming out of hibernation, my spinach seedlings want to go out to the garden, and I refuse to wear my boots again this year. Maybe if we all wish for spring together, we can get it going. Didn't the groundhog promise an early spring? I'm never going to believe that fat fellow again. And I'm going to chase him out of my garden every time I see him.

Hi Sam, what's still here, the Winter Aconite or the 20"?
MY 20" are dwindling, I can hear them go, this warm evening.
    Good riddance too!
    This last Noreaster really hurt.
I had just woke up, me and a thousand birds, on the 15th.
My paths were clear of snow, everything spongy and ready,
fragrant and glittering. Pierced my heart. Again. Here we go!

And then came St.Patrick's day, well, you know what it looked like.
My winter Aconite is deep asleep. Chard and other seeds too.

Well, it beats last year's drought I guess. But it hurt.

I missed the re-scheduled perennial talk at the Co-op ext.
the first one was cancelled; -I couldn't get out of my driveway
anyway, and so was spared the disappointment.
There was no announcement or phone access.
The second one I had out-of-state company overnight only, so..

I don't know about "winter interest"... you folks shovel your garden paths?

The glacier seems to be receding...and quickly too. My snowdrops were beginning to bloom just before the last snow hit and peeking up from under winter leaf debris in my perennial beds were tender new yarrow leaves....

I'm ready for spring - I want to amend my soil - I want to see my tulips grow and bloom.

A small south-facing slope came back out today
and there were the crocuses I saw in bud 2 weeks ago, still blue, still standing (how?).
All the paths are still 4-5 inches deep in soggy snow.

I'm counting the days til N.Duchess Botanical opens (4.15, right?)
I need some Brunnera sp. Hope they'll have it.

A new garden sculpture is churning around in my head, can't wait to start!

The snow is all melted off the gardens, and I spent just about the whole day on Sunday starting that spring cleanup, cutting down the ornamental grasses and the eupatorium stalks. A cedar arbor that I had at the top of stairs leading into part of my garden had fallen over in December - the wood posts in the ground had simply rotted away, so I replaced it with a really nice metal arbor that has a gate - looks very cool now :-) Unfortunately, the honeysuckle I had growing on the other arbor became a casualty, so I'll be trying something else this year - not sure what yet. So, the fun has definitely begun !!
