Zone question for Carmel NY

Hello,
I am confused as to which Zone I am in. I cannot get a closeup on any zone map, and it looks as if I'm on the border of zone 5 and 6. I am in Carmel, NY, which is in Putnam County. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

I think you are in 6a. Look at the zone map (from Cornell co-op ext) in the link here (If I did this right!)

Here is a link that might be useful: NYS Zone map

Just remember that microclimates can vary and if you're down in a valley you might be in zone 5b or on a hill you could be 6b. How cold did it get there this winter? With zone 6 you should not have been below -9. That map shows me as 5b but with a winter low of -19, I'm closer to 5a.

It is tough to say since this winter wasn't as cold as the last...I am in Putnam Lake and defiinitely a zone 5, but my mother in law in Mahopac is warmer, more of a borderline with 6.
And even then, last winter killed LOTS of plants rated for zone 5 or colder. You are better off buying/planting stuff rated 5 or colder just to be safe.
