Hi Valleygirl;

No, I haven't as yet, I just heard about Hardy Gardenia the other day and haven't been out as yet.

RE: Hardy Gardenia?

Joy,, it is a great garden center. I go there alot in the spring to get all kinds of plants. They even have garden dacore(sp?), patio furniture, and pond supplies including plants and fish. If you know where Dury la. is off of 207 take that to the end. Thet puts you on 17k. Make a left. Go up a few miles pass 84 entrance ramp and it will be on your left. If you are coming from Union ave. Make a left(where the new Lowes is) and it will be a few miles up on your right. I also get my 1/2 whiskey barrels there. I think it is 2 for $30. That Harty Gardenia sounds interesting.. Let me know if you find one.

Val;

The pennings in Salisbury Mills is on rt. 94 on the lefthand side, just before Cumberland Farm and the Cornwall train Station.

Roe orchard in Blooming Grove off rt. 94, I haven't brrn to yet

The one in Warwick is also on Rt. 94, I beleive in or just outside of Warwick, but before Vernon, NJ.

Liz5 knows of a few more over her way also. I think there are some others in Monroe, chester, New Windsor and Newburgh. Not to mention a few miles further in any direction. LOL

I sent a page to you of a few listed not to far from us.

RE: Hardy Gardenia?

I am growing a hardy gardenia in Seattle in a pot on my deck. Have had it 2 years, and this year it was absolutely covered with blooms. So fragrant! Am transplanting it to a larger pot today. It is great!I heartily recommend it.

RE: Hardy Gardenia?

Mine was doing great in a pot and all of a sudden the leaves started turning brown!! Too much water, not enough. Too much sun?? I moved it out of the sun to a shady area that only gets like an hour of sun. Anybody have anysuguestions? I'm going to feed it this week-end.

RE: Hardy Gardenia?

Well, I've killed four "hardy" gardenias, even over-wintering them indoors, in the last 4 years. I'm in Zone 6, Chappaqua to be exact. I think they are just really difficult plants! They hate my soil. They hate cold, obviously. They hate direct warm air currents. They hate direct sun. And so on. I think I'm giving up on them since they've thus far been an expensive folly for me. :( If you find something that does work, please let us know! I love their scent and their beautiful glossy leaves, but I just can't handle killing yet another innocent beauty!

RE: Hardy Gardenia?

I planted one and it died over the winter. It was in a protected zone 6 microclimate on the south side of my house. I even mulched it after it froze. I give up. I just sniff them now at the garden center. Even in the house they are too buggy for me. For the similar smell, go with tuberoses.
