What about spraying in late winter?

Went for a tour to check on everything today, a few deer casualties,
besides the poor Euonymous: a Cotoneaster and a Quince, also one Burkwood Viburnum, not the other, go figure. They tasted the Umbrella pine.
Does the spray work in winter too? Do you spray, anyone? Does it work?
I don't think i want to wait any longer, maybe I can save the Magnolia buds this year? |

| The deer sure are hungry this time of year! I don't spray but this past year put up some of the lighter deer fencing and the darn critters just pushed their way through a 50 foot section of it and ate all the buds on the blueberries. I think the spray is worth a shot since the deer are already on their way to eating everything they can reach and I don't think it would hurt to start now. |

Ok, I've got a gallon brewing. I strained it through a cloth, rather lengthy procedure, I hope it will help not clogging the sprayer, just got one of those at Lowes. As soon as it stinks I'm out there. This weekend's supposed to be nice. |

| I spray throughout the winter...mostly the vibirnums in the back, where there isn't as much activity. I had gotten a little lax about it, and when the tulip foliage started appearing this January, I hadn't sprayed it, and the deer ate it flat to the ground. You bet I was out there spraying as soon as I noticed it eaten. I know that the foliage comes up way before the actual stems and flowers, so I should be ok..but I am sure the bulb will miss the food that those leaves would have been gathering up for next year's productions. That's what happens when I get a bit comfortable in the winter. Oh well, just glad I started spraying two years ago. I never did before and between the rabbits, groundhogs and deer...well, you know the story. Gool Luck, I'd spray if I were you. |
