Reel mower sharpening?

Posted by nygardener z6 New York (My Page) on

I picked up an Agri-Fab manual push reel mower that I'd like to have sharpened. None of the local lawnmower repair places have the sort of grinder that's needed to sharpen the blades uniformly. (The rotating blades spin very close to the fixed blade, so they sharpening must be precise.) Does anyone know of a place or person that can work on these? It would be much appreciated.

My husband ordered a reel mower sharpening kit from Amazon. I think it was around $15. Then he sharpened it himself. I don't think it took him very long, and he was pleased with the results.

Good idea! I'll get one and try it.

There used to be people who had machines to do this professionally that would put on a really good edge. But there don't seem to be many left. One place told me they'd gotten rid of the machine a few years ago because they couldn't justify using the space for it any more, since demand had declined.

If anyone does know of a shop or person (maybe an old-timer?) that might do this work, please post here!
