Are Catskill wild chives/onions edible?

Scores of small-bulbed onions, with single stalks that reach 3-4' and are now forming buds, spring up in the garden each ... um ... spring. I'm tempted to sauté them up for supper. What are they, and are they edible?

Yes, they're edible. Well, I eat them! Try them a bit at a time.

That's sensible! I'll try one or two in tomorrow's supper. Do you know if they have a name and if they're native?
