Has anyone tried to grow lemon verbena here? In pots brought inside in winter, or heavily mulched?

Well, I've tried. I find it's a magnet for white fly. It won't survive outside in our climate and inside it brings all its bugs with it.

Thanks for the reply and sorry it took me so long to see it. That's disappointing, the article I read made it sound really desirable.

Worth growing as an annual. I love the scent and it's a nice addition to tea or iced lemonade. When I was a kid, my grandmother (who lived in southern CA) used to send sprigs of it in her letters. As a long term herb, I prefer pineapple sage (also good in iced tea or lemonade) or rosemary.

A hardy variety of rosemary such as 'Arp' might survive if protected and well-mulched, but I don't think the others would stand a chance outdoors. Lemon verbena and pineapple sage both grow prolifically here and can easily reach 4 to 5 feet before frost kills them.
