Time to check the Mugo pines for sawfly larva

Finally got them on time this year, very little damage yet!
Insecticidal soap was at hand in a hurry, that did it.

The denuded branches from last year are spangled with tiny, stiff
tassels of new growth, yay! They're regenerating, I'm extatic!

I have ten Mugos and love them all. I'm on patrol now!

Any word from Oldroser this year?

Has anyone else had problem with viburnum bugs?

I will probably loose 2 mature viburnums this year, I found the European Viburnum leaf beetle larva all over and the leaves totally chewed and brown and yucky. I'm trying to decide wheather I should just get rid of them or try to save them. I hate to spray poisons because the birds also feed on them. I first saw the pest last year.

Here is a link that might be useful: viburnum leaf beetle
