 o
Local, or somewhat local source for Peonies

Posted by linnea2 z5 NY (My Page) on

Hi,
I'm about to plant a lot of Peonies but find the varieties in my "usual" nurseries pretty limited.

Does anyone know of a place that has a lot of different Peonies,
not too distant. Perhaps a place that specializes?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Matterhorn nursery (off the Pallisades)in Rockland county has a good selection of unusual peonies.

Here is a link that might be useful: Matterhorn Nursery

Story's up in Freehold has an excellent selection at reasonable prices. Find yourself on route 32 and go north to Freehold and then turn left. Worth a trip.

I stopped at the Matterhorn nursery yesterday during my lunch hour. Very large selection of everything. They did have a few different varieties of peonies, but I forgot to bring my suitcase full of cash. $50 for a three gallon peony is too much for me.

Looking for cheep plants, keep an eye out in the paper for private plant sales, you can find a lot of good things as a lot of the plants are rarities that the people have ordered. Ex. two gallon peony $5.00
