Strawberries

Have been picking and eating strawberries for 2 weeks now - surprisingly large crop for a small patch, and even more amazing is that the birds seem to have left them alone and there is relatively little insect damage.

Wonder if anyone has pointers on how I can cut down on the weed situation in the patch. Have never grown strawberries before - these were planted by previous owner.

What about putting down some straw?

If you start noticing strawberries disappearing, get some of that plastic mesh. It's pretty inexpensive, and so far my lettuce and brussels sprouts have remained uneaten by the resident rabbits and groundhogs!

Straw is a great idea - I have plenty left over from the cleaning goat barn.

Thanks,

Dee
