Yes! This is the first week I've started spreading/collecting seeds. I love this part of gardening because wherever they sprout, I know they are happy. So far I have: silene columbine annual scabiosa pyrethrum daisy Your garden is a few weeks ahead of mine! By the way, I have foxglove and columbine seedlings (which will flower next year) all over my gravel driveway (out of the way of the cars), that I seeded last year. They love it there!

Blackcat, how do you collect seeds from Alyssum? I love them and buy a few packs every spring. They do reseed where I've planted them, but I never new you could collect seed from them, they are so tiny. I guess I'll have to look closer for seed. I never noticed any seed capsules. I have never collected seeds before, but think I will this year. My neighbor has some glorious hollyhocks in bloom, I can hardly wait to receive some of the seeds from them. She does a lot of seed sowing over the winter. I used to do that before I had may preschooler. I have a whole setup with lights and trays, I may start using them again now that he's almost 5. I always bought the seeds in January or Feb for winter sowing. Do most annuals come true to the parent if you collect seed from them?

No, annuals do not always come true from the parent, especially if they were hybrids (combination of traits from two different parents). What does come are very unique variations that are nice surprises! Also, some very weak, deformed and sometimes flowerless plants, that you have to weed out. I'm not sure about alyssum, though. They have never reseeded in my garden.

My Alyssum have never reseeded, but this year I noticed the dried up stalks had little flat pods like money plants do. I believe the seeds are in there. I'm going to give it a try.

I looked today, I see what you mean, flat little pods. I think I missed them this round of flowers, I had mostly bare browinsh stems where it looks like the 'pods' were. I'll definately keep a look out with the next flush of flowers. Thanks..
