Rain

I've lived in the Hudson valley for most of my life, and I don't seem to recall the weather in the summer being so wet as this year and last year, but then my memory may not be so keen... Does anyone know any convenient web sites or resources with statistics for rainfall and cloudy days here in our area, so I may be able to say for certain if this weather is 'normal' or not?

One site that has averages for rainfall is www.worldclimate.com . They don't have any specific data for the number of cloudy days but I imagine that you might be able to use the number of cooling degrees as a really rough guide. Unfortunately, the noaa site that has the best history that I can find in our area only has it for Albany (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/). It sure does feel wetter the past couple of years though.

thanks for the link makalu!

that's a great site now I just need to find out the total rainfalls for my area on a yearly basis...

Oh I was checking out the weather channel's web site at weather.com and when you put in your zip code they have a nice feature to check the avg temperatures and rainfall for the current month and last month when you click the orange 'Monthly' button on the top right.

Using that I found last month's average rainfall is 3.72 inches while we got 7.04 inches! August's average is 4 inches but I think we already surpassed that after the tsunami of rain today!

RE: Rain

The sun was shining when I left to go to Rhinebeck but the skies were darkening when I got there. When I came out of the market, the first rain was coming down and thunder was rolling. Drove home in a downpour and half an hour after I got home the sun was shining again. My creek is flooded - can't remember that ever happening in August before. It usually dries up this time of year.
Normal rainfal around here is under 40" a year but we must be getting pretty close to that already. Reservoirs are overflowing as if it was spring run-off.
