Seeds on sale

Adams was offering 75% off on a limited selectin of seeds. These have been picked over pretty thoroughly but I got a pkt of Boston lettuce for 27 cents plus two pkts of the black double opium poppy. Now is the time to sprinkle the poppy seed around and I'll try a late row of lettuce under Remay and see how it works out.

I was in their Newburgh store last night--not a seed packet in sight! I asked for them and they said they were all sold out. Bummer.

Several places have sales around this time of year. I bought some good things from Burpee a couple of years ago. Flower seeds don't last as long, but vegetables, especially tomatoes, peppers, broccoli and other cabbage varieties do well for several years. Bean-type plants and cucumber-type plants will be fine for at least 1 year, possibly a couple of more. Just make sure they're in a cool, dark, dry place over the winter.
