A visit to Stonecrop, Route 301, Cold Spring

Always interesting to see what other gardens have in bloom this time of year. Lots of ligularia, vernonia (ironweed), rudbeckia of various kinds, matricaria. Vegetable garden looks great with one bed entirely of cole - two kinds of kale, broccoli in flower, green, red and savoy cabbage. A new planting of lettuce 'Red Sails' seeded in a herringbone pattern. Lots of annuals, especially annual sages in blue and pale yellow- the latter new to me but very effective. Celosia, coleus, fuchsias....
Plants currently of interest are marked with numbered stakes and a guide is handed out at the potting shed. Also they have laid out a pathway that covers the entire garden.
Worth a trip any time from spring to late fall.
