Plants for a steep sunny slope

Hi all,
I have a steep slope (varying from a 15' to a 30' drop) that is covered with crownvetch, sumac and miscellaneous weeds. Most of it gets sun until about 1:00. I started experimenting at one end with snowberry, cotoneaster, some irises and day lillies, a few mugo pines, and a japanese maple (orangeola). I will be adding more of the same next spring, plus a bunch of low growing spirea. I am looking for anything interesting and 5' or less that is good for controlling erosion and doesn't mind dry, sandy soil. A search turned up blue rug juniper, but when I have tried them elsewhere they seem to just stay the same size as when I planted them. Anyone have some favorites for this situation? |

| I have luck with peonies, of all things. Also, echinacea grows there and so does artemisia (both of which will take over...just what I wanted.)The deer come through and eat the echinacea sometimes. |
