still okay to plant

| My gardening-impaired friend and I are doing some dividing and transplanting from my Montgomery garden to hers. We have managed to procrastinate this project to this weekend.
While digging up a bunch of hostas and daylilies just now it occurred to me (as my fingers started getting more and more numb from cold) that this may not be a good idea. This occurred to me as I plopped the very last clump into a pot to take to her house in the morning.
Am I dooming these plants to a frozen death or are we still okay planting now as long as she keeps them watered till frost?
I also plan on planting my garlic this weekend. The guy at the Garlic Festival told me end of October.
Help?
Note to self--next time plan ahead! |

| Thanks! We'll get everything in today. Hopefully the sun will be warm while we work. |

| I do landscape gardening for a living. We just planted 4 trees, 500 daylillies, 25 perenial foxglove, 10 Stephanandra (small shrub) 4 climbing hydranga and a couple of grasses yesterday. We'll work at the same site next week and will plant a bunch more. I still have a few things left in pots all summer that I will plant in my own garden (which always suffers from time shortage) this weekend. I'll wait for a couple of weeks to plant my garlic because sometimes, with a warm fall, the cloves will sprout and they produce larger cloves if the just grow roots now. It's important to mulch the garlic well. |

| Thanks, corapegia, for the timing advice on the garlic. We got both large beds planted, watered and mulched. Sun was warm, air was cool, soup and crackers for lunch and a helpful husband all made for a very good day in the garden. Dianne |
