| I have about 14 Brugs growing in Dutchess County. They have to be brought in for the winter. I have just brought them in and put them in the spare room for the winter and water occasionally. The only problem that I have is that they do get spider mites and I've never been successful at controlling them. Last year, I brought them out to a sunny window in late February and started watering more. Yes, they took right off again, but the mites hit and they lost all their leaves. This year, I will wait till April to bring them out and get them going, in hopes to get them going and outside as early as possible. You might want to go to the Brugmansia forum for more advice. This year, I also planted them in 5 gallon buckets and then drilled holes in the bucket and buried the whole bucket so that I can pull them out for winter storage. I will simply trim back the roots and slide the bucket into another for storage. If you want, you can take cutting about 4 inches in length and start new plants. I simply lay them sideways on some potting soil and push them in the dirt leaving half of it exposed and keep it slightly on the moist side. New plants are easy to start and I learned that if you have cuttings above the "Y" you will get short plants, and if you have cuttings below the "Y" you will get taller plants. I've got white and peach, possibly we can trade some cuttings!!! Good luck, W |
