Still harvesting?

I'm still picking greens — kale, celery, sorrel, lettuce and herbs — though nothing's growing quickly, and the frosts are getting heavier. What are you still eating from the garden?

Even almost all the herbs are done now ... the only things that I'm still getting are celery and Jerusalem Artichokes. It's getting time to dig the rest of them and the horseradish before the ground freezes and that'll be it for the season.

I've been reaping the kale plants one by one, leaving a few to see how they fare in cold weather. The sorrel is loving this weather. I think winter's really coming, though. Yesterday's tornado (!) blew away the warm fall air and the temps are supposed to fall into the teens at night this week. I guess the plants need a rest, though I'll hate parting with such sweet sorrel ....

I'm still eating chard, kale, some hardy-type greens, dill, parsley, and picking scented violets! I eat the violet leaves, too. Kale will sometimes winter over and in early spring, produce the best, most tender little side shoot leaves along the stem which has fallen to the ground. Most winters it just turns to mush, but I leave them anyway, just in case.
