overwintering cannas

I dug up my cannas aafter they got frosted, they dried for a week, I shook the dirt off, do I cut the roots? I was just going to store them in an unheated frost-free garage in paper bag, is this ok? Thanks

RE: overwintering cannas

I would think just put them in the paper bag. The roots will shrivel over the winter.
Mine are potted and I bring them inside and they just keep growing all winter - they're doing it now. Don't seem to need that much light until spring but they do get leggy.
