In my fenced-in garden, today I found a whole cane on a rose bush with leaves eaten completely off...just stems are left. No deer tracks anywhere. What would do this in November?

I answered my own question in the upstate NY forum...It was caterpillars. The warm weather must've hatched some eggs. There was a small one on my arm yesterday.
