Depends on the species and region. I'm in southern California and the Allen in my yard lays eggs almost year round. She is sitting on a pair of eggs right now. Her last ones fledged December 10th. The father has no involvement after mating.

I live in eastern PA. Our hummers come in early April. We only get Rubys. They have their babies here, and by late September, they are on their way south. In early spring, migrators pass through. You can tell the ones that were yours. My one always sits on "his" trellis, guarding "his" feeder till dusk. Another must have my window feeder up. Last year I didn't put it up. Too many ants and no way to attach a baffle. She flew right past all my other feeders, staring in the window at me, hovering right where the feeder was...till I bought it up from the basement.
