I love my hummers! I've noticed them so much more this year since trimming my huge tree.
My sister mentioned that she has stopped using HB feeders because some sort of mildue grows in the glass bottles which makes the hummers' beaks get infected and they DIE!!!!! Any truth to the rumer? Any way to kill the mildue? I'm afraid to use bleach cause I don't want to poison them. I did notice some mildue when I took the feeder down to clean it and re-fill.
I'm not sure what to do? I like having the feeder right in front of my kitchen window, but I can change over to plants if I have to.
So, should I start fresh with a new feeder, clean out with bleach or some other cleaner (dish soap hasn't helped so far), try a different cleanable kind of feeder or go with plants? Any other suggestions are appreciated.
