Yep...Snow in MS!!!!

How crazy is this!!??? We've had several weeks of beautiful spring like weather and BAM! We were awakened this morning to a blanket of white and it was still gently falling around 9AM...such an unfamilar sight here in the deep south! Though temps are still in the 30s, the sun is out against a brilliant blue sky and the snow is quickly melting. Weather reports yesterday did predict the cold front and a 30 to 40% chance of snow showers that we pretty much laughed off. What a delightful surprise even if it's short lived. Because I'm so camera challenged (and no sophiscated camera), I missed a stunning photo opp of the many cardinals against the glistening white! DARNIT!

Wish list for 2009??? A good camera and someone to teach me how to use it!

Well, I just went outside and there's barely any evidence that it snowed and temps are creeping up. No building snowmen or snowball fights...OK, my "way up north" friends..go ahead and laugh!

That is O. K. We go some good flurries here in southeast Alabama yesterday. None stuck but the grandchildren enjoyed seeing snow for the first time.

Hey Donna and any others in Miss. The 2009 Sightings Map shows a sighting today at around Vicksburg. Not sure how far that is from the coast (150 mi?), but it looks like hummers are moving inland from the coast now. Good news for you guys.

Rob...thanks for the heads up and I am prepared. Gee, they might be a bit early this season compared to last year, maybe two weeks or so. It's always exciting to see the first one!

Rob, I live arout 50 miles N of the MS Coast near the Ala Line. I had swarms of hummers last year but havent seen any yet this year. My feeders are out. Will let yall know when I see one. I cant wait.

I've read that they come to North America over a period of several months (males first), not all at once. That's good because flying across the gulf can be dangerous for them, if they hit a storm.
It's so cold here today, I can't imagine hummers being anywhere close by.
I have feeders out, but the cold north wind has blown most of the blooms off my plants.
Let us know when you see the first one.
