Hummingbird Garden

Help regarding a Hummingbird

Hi,

There is a hummingbird that left the nest about a month ago.

About 4 days ago, I noticed, she has been perching alot in the branch, breathing rapidly with her tongue out. She is puffed up while perching, and acts sleepy. During the day she stays in the sun.

She does go to the Feeder, and is also territorial with it, when other hummingbirds come around. She also preens alot, and is alert.

She lets me get within inches of her, so there is no bumps on her beak. Tongue appears white when its out, and its pink inside.

I do not want to lose her, and wondered if anyone can help on here.

I have never seen a hummingbird that has left the nest act like this, so I know something is not right.

Any help would be appreciated

I dont know where in CA you are, but in So. Cal (chula vista) there is/was a woman who does HB rescue, and she is a wealth of knowledge...I'm sure you could google and find her?

Otherwise, I'm sure you'll get help from others here (I"m completely not knowledgable myself on HB behavior).
