Intruders on the feeder

Do any of you have other birds that use your feeders?

I have a pair of finches that love the nectar and when the're finished will hop up to the ant moat and get a drink before they leave.

Unfortunately, they hit my feeders like a B52, making them swing back and forth, sloshing nectar all over the balcony floor. The ants appreciate that.

My hummers don't seem to mind, and will even perch next the them sharing the feeder. So I guess I'll put up with the mess for now.

Last summer I had a red bellied woodpecker who would feed at my hummer feeder just about every day.

Take pictures! The finches need water, and if they don't have any flowering nectar from shrubs then they just might be needing that too, but I am a gardner and bird lover that has observed the yellow finches return to my yard for 10 years. They head right to the wall fountain and drink more then bathe.
The sticky stuff from your B-52 finches bombing into it is the same mess I had when the wind would blow, my dog knew to stand under it and lick some up, meanwhile, the top of his head looked like hair gel as it dried! So I took a sizable container planter that just had some potting mix it it. It solved the problem by catching any overflow dripping.

China, I would think a wood pecker would wreck yout feeder! Thats amazing. they're really big birds!

Dig, I will photograph my finches. I think they are house finches. He has some red on him. I resented them at first, but now I like them. Unlike hummers, the finch male and female seem to always be together. Kind of romantic, I guess. I'll keep them inspite of their misbehaviour at my feeders.

No damage at all, He would just stick his tongue through the port and lick out the nectar. Downy Woodpeckers are often seen at hummer feeders, but this was the first time I had a Red Bellied show up. I have some pictures, if I knew how to post them here I would.

Speaking of posting pictures, I got this help from ctnchpr when asking how to post a picture. It's in a previous post titled "Hummer nest.. How many" I think it was.

"Rob, To post a photo: Open an account at Photobucket.com, it's free & easy. After uploading your photo, copy the "HTML Code" (3rd line under photo) and paste it in the "Message:" box on this Forum. It will appear as several lines of code, but you'll see the photo when you "Preview Message"."

I haven't tried it yet. See if it works.

Hey ya'll,
We came home today to find honey bees covering our
hummer feeders. There was nectar all over the porch
and patio furniture as well. We did have some
wind and thunder storms today, but I never thought
it could have been other birds. What can we do about
the bees. I don't want to harm them, but if we do
get hummers, are the bees going to be a problem?
