Hummingbird Garden

Oddball ways of trying to attract hummers to your yard.

I have 2 feeders up right now, one on the north side of the house and one on the south side. I tied Bright pink surveyors ribbon near each feeder, and put a red driveway reflector by my south feeder to try to catch the eyes of any distant hummingbirds. I also have petunias planted, along with a columbine, the foxglove may not have made it this winter.

I also sometimes wear a red shirt when in the yard, my wife thinks I am nuts.

Those are not really oddball ways just a little insurance that if a hummer passes over it wont just keep going but take notice. One time out in a boat my sister was wearing a red hat and got dive bombed by a hummer.

civic, a few days ago I put several small, bright red plastic drinking cups on my shepherd hook, clothes line pole, and fence posts at the corners of my yard. I'm always thinking about adding even more red, but I don't want to overdo it.
