Hummingbird Garden

plants not flowering, what's up?

Hi there, I've got 2 plants I bought last year for my hummingbird garden, both in gallon size containers - red flowering currant and a flowering quince. Both are supposed to be early bloomers, and I see them flowering in other yards, but not mine. Does it take a couple of years for them to be mature enough to bloom, or what's with this non-blooming stuff -- my hummers are hungry! Thanks for your input - Kathy

Since both of these get to be pretty good sized shrubs in time, I'd say they were both just too immature to produce blooms. And it can often take a season or so for shrubs to settle in and establish and start flowering on schedule.
