Last year I used 3 to 1 ratio for the sugar water. The hummers that came drank happily.

This year I decided to try 4 to 1 and again hummers drank happily. Yesterday there was a little activity in the morning and no hummer activity that I observed in the evening, so I switched up to 3 to 1 late last night thinking they wanted something extra. What did I see this morning???? A hummer went to a feeder and immediately left and flew to another. Did the same thing another time and then flew off. He was not at a feeder long enough to get anything but a taste. I am thinking that the mix was stronger then he was used to and just split.

Could it be that some hummers prefer 1 to 4 over 1 to 3? I switched back to 1 to 4 on all the feeders and I hung one feeder with the strong mix. I will keep an eye to see if they go to the 1 to 4. One thing I am thinking... one should not change all the feeders to a new ratio at once.
