i have heard of sightings of these birds in my home state. I thought we only had the rubys. Has anyone in the northeast had these rare western hummers. There is even a documented case of a rufous hummer in the eastern siberia!!!

Rufous and Calliope Hummingbirds have been wintering more frequently in the eastern US over the last 15-20 years. Their have been no documented instances of breeding as far as I know, so their appearance in NY is rare. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are still the only species primarily breeding east of the Mississippi River.
