    Wow! Simply Wow.

Up close birds sure do look prehistoric, don't they? Have you ever seen a Pileated woodpecker in person? Freaky how much like pterodactyls they look.

    natrushka;

I have several Pileateds in the woods around me,
and yes, they do look prehistoric, especially with
their crests and that call they give while flying
through the woods. Here are 2 more pics, one of
Mrs. Veloceraptor Claws, and one of what I think
    is a Miss VC.

Sure looks like VR claws. Exactly how close are you to the birds when you take your closeups. My camera I fear is not as good as yours, mine is an svp with an effective pixel of 6.2 and a lens zoom of only 3x.

OH man, I love them, Keep them coming! We have at least three of them at my place now, two males who're easy to tell apart and at least one female - maybe two. I have a feeder in the window but they always choose the far feeding station! (Except when I am washing my hands or when the camera is in another room!).

Last night around 8:30 the female arrived and drank and drank and drank.

    hummersteve,

My camera is a little 'point & shoot' 4MP
Canon, nothing fancy, but it has a great
'Macro' function for close-ups. The birds
that are in focus are about 2" from the lens,
and the camera is resting on the feeder. To
show how much detail you can get with just 4MP's,
I've enlarged the eye of the little girl in the
last picture above. I don't know if you can
click on the pic and make it larger, but if you
can, you'll see the reflections of blue sky,
green trees, the roofline of my house, an open
window, brown wheat straw around my strawberries,
a small patch of green grass, and the white spot
at the very bottom is the corner of my heat pump.
The 2nd photo is the uncropped original. That's
a lot of detail in such a small area of the photo.
I think you'll get even better results with your
    6.2MP.

    natrushka,

Great shot! I love their little tongues.

My camera is a simple point and shoot also with a nice macro function. When they start coming regular i will be able to get them right thru thru the window since my feeders are on the window and I can rest my camera on window but they havent started being regular as yet. What is amazing to me is that you can get close enough to yours to rest your camera on the feeders,, great job.

Great pictures!! How small and light is your camera that you can put it on the feeder?

Thanks, dirtdevil. My camera is an average size
'point & shoot' type. I hold it with my hand but
rest it on the base of the feeder so the two move
together and the focal distance doesn't change.
