HB at rest

This morning, I enjoyed something I've never seen before in my life...out my bathroom window, I noticed something iridescent in the dead brush...yet to be cleaned from last year's perennial garden. It was a hummingbird, completely still for a long time! I have never seen a hummingbird not in motion. I was afraid it may be injured. It hopped over about 1 foot, stayed another long while, and then hopped up onto an arched reed...about the thickness of a tomato cage wire. I guess that's the size they like, as I read the earlier post about the tomato-cage-wire-perching.

After about 3-5 minutes, it finally flew off to the pulmonaria (Bethlehem Sage) and I was relieved to see that it was ok.

Learned something new this morning, as I've now read here on the forum how many of you hope to see your HBs perch.

What a treat! It was a male, with a red throat.

I do not have feeders, but they do visit my yard now and then for the flowers throughout the season. They've always liked the pulmonaria this time of year.
