suzyqute: My camera is a Canon PowerShot A85, a good little camera, but outdated. It's a 4MP with a 3X zoom lens. I've seen cameras recently which cost less than mine did 1-1/2 years ago, but with 7 or 8 MP's and more zoom capacity. Any good camera with a 'Macro' function will take good close-ups.
I wish I knew how you get your Ruby Throats to coexist. Every year I have one ill-tempered female that guards the entire yard and runs off every other visitor.
harryshoe: It's easy - Valium in the nectar. ;-) The only explanation I can offer is that I try to lure the most aggressive ones away from the main group by using several small feeders scattered around my yard. This morning at first light, 20 were feeding at the same time. They were probably cooperating because it had rained all night, and they were wet, cold, and hungry.
Wow, great pics! I can never get shots that nice...Of course, I have to hang my feeder about 8 feet or so off the ground lest my cat catches them...Lol.
I've saved a few and held them in my hand while they recuperated for minutes...I took some pics, but lost them in a recent computer crash..:(
