Let me just say this. A friend and I visited a state park which just happened to have a bird observatory room and we must have sat there and watched for an hour and a half. There were three big hanging feeders a water well and all these things got heavy competion from blackbirds , bluebirds , you name it , there was also a hummer feeder but it was placed 7 or 8 feet to the outside of all this activity. We saw a hummer come in only once in that period. Might I say the bird area was not enclosed, free roaming with microphones so it was quite enjoyable . I was surprised at the lack of hummer activity in this quite wooded area.
