Hummingbird Garden

Attracting hummingbirds in zone 4

I live in Minnesota (zone 4) and would love to attract more hummingbirds to my garden. I was on vacation in Duluth MN last fall and one of the homes near our hotel had a shrub in the back yard which the hummingbirds couldn't get enough of. Someone told me the name but,I've forgotten though I believe that it was an annual. Does anyone have ideas for perennials or annuals that are hummingbird magnets for zone 4?

Bee Balm is a great perennial. It comes in reds and pinks. My dad (in Wisconsin) had a red one, and the hummers loved it. This year he planted 15 more! I put in a few too (I'm in North Dakota) for my hummers when they are sick of the feeders.

Check out the link below for midwest gardeners. Kathi is in Wisconsin but with similar growing conditions to you. She grows and lists lots of plants that they grow in their hummers gardens along with other useful information. Some are annual and some perennial
