Hummingbird Garden

Larger, thin hummingbird

There is a larger, thinner hummingbird that is not the usual sighting around here. Can you give me a way to narrow the search for identifying it? He must be off course because I've never seen one like this before and, yes, he really is a hummingbird. Any help will be appreciated.

If you don't own a field guide to birds I'm sure your local public library will have at least one. The Sibley guide is very good for all kinds of birds but there are also 2 field guides to just hummingbirds. You could also ask your local Audubon Society for help.

I think this page tells which hummingbirds have been seen in Georgia. It's highlighted because I clicked on cache on Google.

This has descriptions of North American hummingbirds but not photos. It does tell their length in the description so I thought that might help you narrow it down a little. It has a page 2.
