Ahhhhh! theres a bully in every crowd, nice shots. I dont have as much action as you, but today I had a close encounter. I was attending a flower and I heard the buzz of wings at a feeder about 5ft from me but I didnt look till the last second and another hummer came flying in to drive it away and they both ended up right above my head thought they were going to crash into me.

I understand a bully male could be frustrating if you have a lot of hummers that want to drink. Send him over to my yard. At least I would then have one hummer to watch. I haven't seen any in ten days.

I have not seen a hummer since May 20th . . . boo-hoo!

The male RTs and Black Chinned here are wimps. The females (bigger) often chase the males away, but only for about ten seconds, then they're back. LOL

Meanwhile, the less aggresive hummers enjoy the feeders in peace.

Thanks, folks!! He was at his guard post all day yesterday and is there again this morning. When a feeder from another spot is almost empty, I give it to him. He ends up with enough nectar, sees lots of red, thinks he's important, and leaves the others alone. There is another cluster of feeders about 20 ft away, which he doesn't bother. Ya have to go with what works...

Great pics--I just love these little bullies.
I keep 5-7 feeders in different areas around the yard--as much out of site of each other as I can, and that seems to really work for my bullies.
Activity really heats up here about the end of June all the way till my residents leave in early September. Last year I had many Fledglings in July and August and had to use 7 feeders.
I think my blood pressure lowers by about 10% as I watch and laugh at the antics of these wonderful creatures!

I like birds but honestly speaking I'm not familiar with their names. I'm so thankful that I have read this article now I know what a bully male bird look like.
