Hummingbird Garden

daddy hummer alone now

We only had one pair of hummers to begin with, but then, I was saddened when we returned from a short vacation to find mama hummingbird deceased between our screen door and floor threshold of our porch. Mystery how that happened. Now daddy is all alone. He still comes regularly to our feeder, but no females or other males at all. He seems totally alone. No idea where a nest would be.

Will he find another mate or just live alone here all summer?

I am very sad about your hummer loss, also. I would also try to figure out how a hummer could get trapped between a latched screen and the door. No red on the door? I caught one once with a blue tarp just below my feeders and got rid of it immediately. Had one bump the top of my patio this morning pretty hard, but did not knock him out. Sure hope you get another female. I depend on those little girls to furnish me two more birds for next year.

Yay, another female showed up today! Hopefully, I'll be seeing more. I am just relieved the male is not alone anymore. Still have no idea how she got trapped -- no red on the door.
