Im afraid I cant answer your question as I am a first year bee balm grower. Yours are very pretty and will surely draw hummers. Mine is the grand marshall and I have several sets or bulbs ready to open but none have yet. Im not sure of the correct term for the bulbs in waiting. I cant wait to see what color mine will be and if the hummers will use it.

This is only my second year growing them. I trimmed mine down in the fall. When I bought them, it was July and they were cut back. The nursery said when they stopped blooming, they were cut back and might bloom again. They did. I'm sure someone else here will be of more help. By the way, they are beautiful. I'm surprised dwarfs are so big.

You may get a second flush of blooms by deadheading. I usualy deadhead mine to keep the blooms coming although later blooms are generally smaller.

A friend of mine just posted a picture of a flower very similar looking to yours. Maybe you want to check out Red Monarda or Monarda didyma. Searching the web, it does come up as Bee balm as well.

It is monarda :) I found the tag today, it is called Raspberry Wine. Gorgeous dwarf variety Bee Balm!! I purchased and potted it up just one month ago, and it is blooming profusely. Thanks for the info, Penny, I'll definitely deadhead it!! Christy :)

I don't deadhead. Yes, you might get repeat blooming --- I'm just too lazy to do it. But I do have several hundred square feet of the stuff, in three areas. I don't do anything to it. No fertilizer or anything. I do live in a wooded area so the Monarda gets dumped with leaves in the fall --- lots of mulch which seems to take care of it nicely.
And yes, never saw a hummingbird until this stuff got going. And of course, bees love it (hence the common name).
