I just had my first hummingbird, visiting my lady in red salvia! I'm so happy! I'd just about given up. The house I bought last August didn't have any hummingbird plants before I moved in and I didn't manage to attract any during the fall migration. An Audubon bird guy I talked to recently said it took him three years to get hummingbirds. I was so sad.
The ruby-throat seems so much more delicate than the Anna's hummingbirds I'm use to seeing. But maybe that's because she/he wasn't doing the Anna's right in your face- left,right,up,down-hey-who-are-you maneuver. Or maybe it's because I haven't seen a hummingbird in a year.
I hope it sticks around. I have sooooo many hummingbird plants blooming right now and tons that will bloom later. So, if you haven't seen them yet, don't give up hope! Hurray!!
