Did you see hummers use the feeder before that trap? If not then it could be location, or more likely the feeder. Hummers here seem to prefer certain feeder styles than others. What kind of feeder is it and do you have others of the same type that get use?

Not sure about the paper wasp thing being the reason, are there a lot of wasps flying around the trap? I use a glass trap, one with a hole in the bottom, a cork in the top and a lip inside the bottom to put sugar water to attract the hummers. Catches some wasps, but not a lot. Last year I had it about a foot and a half from my most active feeder, so it did not scare the hummers away.

It is a new feeder, I broke the one which was in that location last year. The feeder type is different from what was there last year, but they do use feeders like it. I have a few types. Yes, all other feeders are being used (often!). But not this one, and yes, they did use the feeder in this location last year.

There were some wasps in the area last year - which is why I put up the wasp deterrent thing. (Which seems to be working).

OK just checking. Maybe I will try to move one of their favourites near here to see if they are just not liking the location - which is sad for me if they have changed their mind, I can see them feeding from my dining room table!

You said it is a new feeder and that is a similar type to other that you have. I have found that my hummers are funny creatures. They will go to my yankee droll saucer type feeder, but not the hummzinger which to me looks exactly the same. Tried them in different locations too. Strange since there are a lot of folks that have luck with the hummzingers.

I would try two things. Switch the feeder they are using to that location and see if they go to it, then you will know it is the new feeder. Second thing to try is to move the location of the feeder in question, even just ten feet. They say that hummers will find the moved feeder right away, but it will take the bees a few days to a week to find it.
