I would have to guess that they are going to a feeder early in the morning closer to where they are roosing for the night. I ususally see the first hummer before dawn and then as late as 8:58 in the evening. One is roosting directly across the road from my house so it is easy to spot her comings and goings.

Monica--- Evidently there is somewhere else they go to early in the day closer to their roosting spots. Do you have hummer plants available for them or just feeders and do a lot of other people in your area have hummer ready yards. Those are the questions you have to ask yourself to answer your question.

Penny-- If your hummers roost across the street from you Im simply amazed you do not have more action at your place. Would there be another reason why you dont have more visitors at your locale.

Steve, There is only one female across the road and she comes to the feeder in the front yard. I don't have more hummers because they simply didn't return this year. The year before last I had at least 17. Last year that was cut in half and then this year almost nothing at all.

Steve: I have tons of plants that the Hummers love but they don't seem to even check out the plants. They come out of a neighbors tree and straight to the feeder.

One of my neighbors had a feeder --- long story --- but I was taking care of their feeder. Well I forgot all about their dog. She is about a year old Retriever and has been spending lots of time in the back yard.

Actually, maybe the dog is scaring them away in the morning. She is out starting at about 5:30 a.m. and then making her potty breaks about every hour until 9 a.m. or so.

I am going to check out the neighborhood and see if anyone else has feeders. I'm on a corner lot and I don't believe any of the neighbors have feeders until the next block. I'll check it out tomorrow on my walk.
