Actually I have two birdbaths , one is mounted on a post but could be hung, it is the walmart one that is blue. Had it for a few years and regular birds have gotten used to stopping by for a drink. I also have a larger birdbath 2ft across with a water wiggler for movement no fountain. I have had a fountain in the past but never had a hummer use it but I have seen photos or vids people that have had it happen. I have seen hummers take a bath on large plant or bush just perching or flitting around on wet leaves. I sometimes use a mister from a garden hose by attaching a mister to it and attaching it to a stake of some kind. I have it misting over a plant area. I leave mine on an hour or longer, but you can run it as long as you wish. I use mine on really hot days .

You have a lot of questions and a strong urge to learn more about the why's and how to of hummingbirds.
