They were there at 5:30 this morning

Trouble sleeping, so got up at 5:30 am to look. Saw hummers twice. One of those time he was sitting on the wire for a while, then went to feed.

Those feeders look desolate and abandoned when there's no activity, but don't take your feeders in, they are out there. Maybe only a few, but definitely at least one or two. It's very easy to miss them if there's only a few and you only look a few times a day.

We've noticed a lone female early some mornings and a lone male early some other mornings.
So far haven't noticed any in the evenings but I'm sure they're out there like you said. :)

Oh, if you want to see tons of hummers take a trip to Green Mountain Falls, CO in July.
I was amazed at the amount of hummers on that mountain!
Broad-tailed were the predominant species. The males are very loud when they fly so it's easy to spot them.
We also saw Rufous and Calliope.
I loved to watch them feeding on wildflowers and we went to a 4th of July party where the host had several feeders and they were zooming around and would come to the feeders with people around them.
It was truly amazing and I was in hog heaven. Laugh.

Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation.:)

Here's hoping we're all in hog heaven soon. (I said July, but I should have said August).

It's been raining off and on all day. Went home at lunch to try to get the dog to potty and spotted one on the Russelia equisetiformis. Woo hoo! Our local Home Depots in Tulsa currently have several of these plants which is unusual but I snatched two up since they're decently priced at 20 each.
Hoping to see a hummer again in the evening after work! :)

Robert, I do think your idea of having lots of hummingbird plants (and other plants) blooming in your yard is a great one. It's like having billboards all around saying Stop here! Breakfast served all day!

PS I followed your lead and ordered some Bouvardia ternifolia to put into a deck railing planter.

Well they definitely have lots to choose from should they decide to fly by. ;)
My partner saw it a few moments ago so hopefully she'll stick around!

Yay! Glad to be a bad influence. Laugh.
Our bouvardia is still blooming away though it suffered when we were away on vacation.
I think my friend didn't water it enough.
I plan on cutting back the stems that are slowly dying in hopes that new shoots will come up from the base. :)
Hummers love russelia so you might want to check to see if your HDs have any in...I mean I might as well enable you some more. Laugh.
