After a lot of wasted pics, here's my first decent shot (a friend said 'get away from that fence!):

THis one w/ direct flash as u can tell by the eye; I've learned some simple solutions to that:

And my favorite, though the background's a little too busy. (Notice from the neck down he looks fuzzy!- first thought some how out of focus, but i watched closely and noticed that sometimes their bodies continue to vibrate for a bit after perching):

Homerpa.......i agree with all above....fantastic pics! I wish i could get them.
First, I suppose i have to get a hummer to arrive....lol
Hubby said he saw one last evening.....but i didnt ...so it doesnt count.........just kidding...

thanks so much for the kind comments! The first pic looks to big on the computer; I'll have to work on that.

I really don't remember if the flash scared them away or not; I estimate that I was 10 feet away, and it was during the afternoon-- the day looks much darker in the pic.

The camera is a Canon Powershot S2 IS, a decent point and shoot w/ a lot of features that I had to learn about (and have already forgotten about) to shoot these coolest of birds.
